Janne Kusmin - Drums
I was born in 1980 in the mighty city called Tornio. In the late 80’s I found my big brothers lp’s which were Iron Maiden, Metallica, Twisted Sister and so on. In the early 90’s I found bands like Sepultura, Slayer, Morbid Angel, etc. I loved them and while listening those albums I always dreamt that it would be super cool to play drums like those bands drummers did.
I got my first crappy drumkit (I think it was called Maya or something) in 1991. And since that I’ll been banging drums more or less. I only have had couple of proper drum lessons. I didn’t like them because it didn’t want to learn paradiddles and anything like that. I just wanted to play heavy metal and I think you can hear from my playing that I didn’t got too many lessons :)
I played in several bands in Tornio in 90’s. In the year 2000 (great Conan’ O Brien sketch by the way) I moved to Oulu to study and started playing in a bands called Wrathage (which I still play) and Catamenia. In 2001 Lede, who I got to know from Catamenia, told me that he went to play bass in the band called Kalmah and they needed drummer too. I wasn’t heard them before but Lede played me the Swamplord album and I was impressed. I went to audition where we played Evil in you and Heritance of Berija (if I remember correctly) and the super Kokko bros. liked what they heard I think, because here I still am trying to play some heavy metal drums.
